Four tiger cubs, rescued near Gaudanakatte in Hunsur taluk, have died within days of their separation from their mother. The young animals were found weakened after an estimated 48 hours without sustenance. Their condition deteriorated rapidly after being transferred to the Koorgalli Rehabilitation Centre.
Forest personnel had initially spotted the mother and cubs on November 28. While the mother was captured later that night, the cubs were only located on November 30, having endured stressful conditions due to public presence and noise. Upon reaching the rehabilitation center, the cubs exhibited fear, refused to feed, and showed signs of severe fatigue.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Fayazuddin confirmed the fatalities, citing causes including cardiopulmonary failure, gastritis, encephalitis, and feline panleukopenia. Post-mortem examinations have been completed, with tissue samples sent to a Bengaluru laboratory for further investigation. The rescued mother remains safe and is undergoing treatment.
