Summary
- Juvenile loggerhead turtle Tarquin returned to Azores in Portugal
- Turtle found cold-stunned on Blackpool beach in November, rehabilitated at UK aquarium
- Aquarium curator "elated" to see Tarquin released back into open ocean

In a heartwarming conservation success story, a juvenile loggerhead turtle has been nursed back to health and returned to his home in the Azores, Portugal, after being found stranded on a Blackpool beach last November.
The turtle, named Tarquin, was discovered in a severely weakened, "cold-stunned" state, a potentially life-threatening condition caused by sudden exposure to chilly temperatures. Thankfully, the turtle was rescued and taken to the Sea Life centre in North Yorkshire, where he underwent extensive rehabilitation over the past several months.
This week, Tarquin was finally released back into the open ocean, much to the delight of the aquarium's curator, Todd German. "It's an amazing feeling and a culmination of lots of different organizations coming together for this animal," he said, expressing his elation at seeing the turtle return to his natural habitat.
The successful rescue and release of Tarquin serves as a heartwarming reminder of the importance of conservation efforts and the dedication of those who work tirelessly to protect vulnerable marine species.
