Abandoned Lynx Thrive After Highland Ordeal
11 Jan
Summary
- Three starving lynx found abandoned in Highlands are now thriving.
- A fourth lynx, a male, was trapped but died after being abandoned.
- The illegal release of the lynx remains an ongoing police investigation.

Three female lynx, rescued after being found starving and abandoned in the Scottish Highlands last January, are now thriving at the Highland Wildlife Park. The cats were discovered near Kingussie, exhibiting unusual tameness. A fourth male lynx was also found but tragically died overnight, showing signs of starvation.
Their illegal release remains a mystery, with Police Scotland's investigation ongoing. The surviving lynx, named Caledonia, Cardrona, and Bluebell, were quarantined at Edinburgh Zoo before moving to their new home. Keepers report they are living happy, enriched lives and have become popular with visitors.
Lynx were once native to Scotland, and their reintroduction is campaigned for by charities. Experts believe the young, naive lynx were unlikely to have survived long on their own after abandonment. The discovery of bedding with porcupine quills near where they were found offers a potential clue to their origin.
