A Canada goose in Pennsylvania experienced a harrowing ordeal after a rusty metal ring became lodged around its bill. The bird was found bleeding and disoriented on a busy sidewalk in downtown York earlier this past September. Its unusual behavior and visible distress prompted concerned residents to seek help.
Upon closer inspection, the extent of the injury became clear. The ring had caused worn wounds and cut skin, leading to significant bleeding. The goose was also severely underweight and dehydrated because it could not eat or drink. After being rescued and transported to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, the ring was successfully removed.
Despite initial weakness, the goose responded well to care, drinking water and grooming itself. It has since made a full recovery and was released back into the wild, visibly feeling better and free to fly once more.
