26 Feb
Summary
- Plan integrates climate resilience into growth strategy.
- Focus on renewable energy, resilient infrastructure, and farm support.
- Aims to safeguard livelihoods and unlock new economic avenues.

Ratnagiri district has pioneered a District Development-cum-Climate Action Plan, integrating climate-resilient measures into its growth strategy. This plan, prepared by iFOREST, emphasizes renewable energy deployment, climate-proof infrastructure, and strengthening agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Key interventions include widespread solar pump adoption and clean energy systems for agriculture. The district also plans to enhance climate-resilient farming practices and post-harvest infrastructure for crucial crops like mango and coconut. Coastal infrastructure and public buildings will be fortified against rising temperatures and extreme weather events.
The plan identifies significant renewable energy potential, estimating nearly 19 gigawatts from solar, wind, and other sources. It recommends establishing a dedicated district climate cell and a climate finance platform to ensure climate priorities are embedded in planning and budgeting. This aims to mobilize investments for sustainable development and create green jobs.
