A significant mycological discovery has been made in Great Britain with the first-ever confirmed sighting of a rare, pale pink fungus. The species, identified as Clavaria calabrica, often referred to as the 'fairy club' fungus, was found in autumn 2025 at Haydon Batch, a grassland area near Radstock in Somerset.
Volunteers from the Somer Valley Rediscovered project made the find, which has since been verified through DNA testing. This marks the first recorded instance of this species in Great Britain, though it has been previously documented in Northern Ireland.
