26 Jan
Summary
- A rare flying squirrel was found injured in barbed wire at a CRPF camp.
- Both the squirrel and an exhausted vulture received specialized care.
- The rescues emphasize conservation efforts beyond flagship species.

A rare flying squirrel, discovered critically injured and ensnared in barbed wire at a CRPF camp within the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve's buffer zone, has been successfully rescued. The nocturnal mammal sustained multiple injuries, posing a significant risk of infection.
A dedicated rescue team from the reserve safely extracted the squirrel and transported it to the specialized care facilities at the Jungle Safari Zoological Park in Naya Raipur. Veterinary professionals are diligently treating the animal, which is now showing positive signs of recovery.
This operation, conducted around Republic Day, serves as a potent example of conservation initiatives extending to lesser-known species. The rescue of the flying squirrel was closely followed by the intervention for an exhausted and severely dehydrated vulture found within the same landscape.
