Ranchi Tackles Air Pollution Crisis
30 Oct
Summary
- Ranchi Municipal Corporation to report health impacts of air pollution.
- City to identify most and least polluted sites by scientific data.
- A five-year saturation plan under NCAP is being developed.
The Ranchi Municipal Corporation's health wing has been tasked with preparing a detailed report on the health consequences of air pollution within the city limits. This directive came during a recent meeting of the city-level implementation committee, which focused on assessing the current air quality and implementing measures for emission control.
Officials from the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board are required to identify the five most and least polluted sites in Ranchi using scientific data. They will also report on peak and minimum PM10 levels throughout the day. A scientific route plan for ambient air quality monitoring across city zones is also being developed.
The municipal commissioner has mandated the creation of a five-year saturation plan for the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). This plan will integrate components like paver block installation, road repair, tree plantation, modern crematoria, and waste management to achieve full coverage of anti-pollution infrastructure and actions.
To curb dust, all under-construction buildings and sites must now use green shading nets. The horticulture wing will identify locations for increased tree plantation to expand the city's green cover. Awareness activities are planned for schools, colleges, and public spaces to engage citizens in improving air quality.
