12 Mar
Summary
- Tiger reserve's conservation plan resubmission is pending NTCA approval.
- Tiger safaris in the core area are delayed, impacting local livelihoods.
- The reserve is home to 8 tigers, including newly introduced individuals.

The Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTR) is awaiting approval for its revised Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The forest administration is currently collecting data for corridor plans connecting RVTR with Ranthambore and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserves, a key element missing from previous drafts. This revision, conducted with assistance from the Wildlife Institute of India, is crucial for the eventual commencement of tiger safaris.
Local wildlife enthusiasts are eager for the tiger safaris, proposed to begin in January 2026, highlighting their potential to generate significant livelihood opportunities. The reserve, spanning over 1,500 sq km, currently supports 8 tigers, with efforts to enhance eco-tourism and conservation through the TCP. The plan also includes provisions for scientific wildlife management and human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
RVTR received formal approval as a tiger reserve in May 2022. Upon NTCA's approval of the amended TCP, regulated tiger safaris will be permitted in the core zone, with initial routes proposed from the Peepkhoda entry gate. The TCP's implementation is expected to open nearly 20% of the reserve for eco-tourism, creating employment for local communities.
