In a significant ruling, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Rajasthan government to constitute a committee of competent officials to undertake a study and measures to rehabilitate the victims of pollution away from the proximity of limestone mining with crushers near Jodhpura village.
For over 1,000 days, a group of villagers in Jodhpura, Rajasthan, have been protesting under the "Jodhpura-Mohanpura Sangarsh Samiti" against a cement plant in their village that has a mine and two associated crushers. The NGT judgment, delivered on November 3, 2025, acknowledged the large-scale impact on the households in the area, with most homes, including recently constructed ones, developing cracks due to the blasting activities. The villagers have also been suffering from noise and air pollution, leading to health issues and mental disturbances.
The NGT has directed the Rajasthan government to provide ₹50,000 each to villagers whose houses have been damaged and ₹20,000 each to villagers for environmental damage and health impacts. The cement company has also been ordered to undertake water recharge and conservation works in the mining site, with technical guidance and monitoring from the Central Ground Water Authority.
