Rajasthan Firms Get Fuel Flexibility Amidst Global Energy Crisis
25 Mar
Summary
- Industries and hotels in Rajasthan can now use alternative fuels.
- This temporary measure is a response to global energy supply disruptions.
- The relaxation allows for fuels like LSHS, HSD, biomass, and RDF pellets.

The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) has authorized the temporary use of alternative fuels for various enterprises across the state. This decision comes as a direct response to significant disruptions in global energy supply, stemming from international conflicts. The relaxation allows businesses, including industries, hotels, and restaurants, to utilize fuels such as low sulphur heavy stock (LSHS), high speed diesel (HSD), biomass, and refuse derived fuel (RDF) pellets.
This temporary measure, valid until April 12, aims to mitigate the challenges enterprises face due to unstable energy sources. Previously, these fuels were restricted to encourage cleaner options like natural gas. However, if the permitted alternative fuels are not readily available, the use of kerosene or coal has also been sanctioned as a substitute. Experts suggest this situation underscores the need to expand cleaner energy options, highlighting the potential of biogas derived from organic waste as a sustainable alternative.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has been promoting bioenergy development since 2018. This highlights a growing emphasis on renewable energy sources. Both governmental bodies and local stakeholders are encouraged to strengthen efforts in producing renewable gas from organic waste, presenting it as a long-term solution to conventional fossil fuel dependence and energy security concerns.
