A special tiger protection force is set to be established for the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. This initiative mirrors the successful unit already operating at Corbett Tiger Reserve. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced this development while chairing the 23rd meeting of the State Wildlife Board.
The board also prioritized the expedited establishment of ten wildlife transit centers. Officials were directed to prepare a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflict and promoting wildlife tourism within the state. This plan includes the deployment of quick response teams and modern surveillance technology.
Discussions also covered infrastructure proposals within protected areas, including a gas pipeline and road projects. These proposals will undergo rigorous review to ensure wildlife safeguards and statutory clearances are met. The Chief Minister emphasized involving local communities in conservation efforts and wildlife-based tourism.
Furthermore, measures to strengthen wildlife corridors, expand camera trap usage, and enhance forest-fire management were discussed. The swift provision of compensation to victims of wildlife attacks remains a key focus, with QRTs also slated for deployment during the 2027 Haridwar Kumbh.
