Punjab Unveils Tech Portal for Pollution Grievances

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) is set to introduce a technology-driven online grievance redressal portal within the next month. This digital platform aims to enhance public accountability by allowing citizens to report pollution-related violations from anywhere in Punjab. The portal will provide real-time tracking of actions taken on complaints and features what is described as the country's first two-tier appellate mechanism for a state pollution control board.

Designed for time-bound disposal, the portal will cover complaints regarding industrial pollution, contaminated water, air quality, and illegal emissions. A key feature is its integrated auto geo-tagging, which automatically records the location of pollution sources, aiding in quicker inspections and minimizing false reports. Complainants can monitor their case's progress through all stages, from registration to closure, with detailed action-taken reports available online.

For those unsatisfied with the initial resolution, the portal enables online appeals. The first appeal is to be decided by the senior environmental engineer, with a second and final appeal reviewed by the member secretary. The first appeal has a 45-day window post-disposal, and the second appeal can be filed within 90 days, ensuring a structured and accessible resolution process.
