Pune RMC Plants Face Action Over Pollution
15 Feb
Summary
- MPCB grants 20 days for RMC plants to meet pollution guidelines.
- Residents report air quality index readings exceeding 300.
- Traffic congestion is a significant concern due to heavy vehicle movement.

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has directed ready-mix concrete (RMC) plant owners in Pune's Bavdhan Budruk area to comply with pollution control guidelines within 20 days. Regional officer Babasaheb Kukade stated that six RMC plants are under scrutiny for their adherence to MPCB guidelines issued on October 17, 2025.
Residents have voiced concerns over air pollution, noting AQI readings that have occasionally exceeded 300. Additionally, traffic congestion on narrow roads, exacerbated by heavy vehicles from the RMC plants, poses a significant problem, particularly around Omkar Garden Chowk. Meetings between the MPCB, plant owners, and residents aim to address these issues.
The updated MPCB guidelines stipulate particulate matter levels at plot boundaries must not exceed 100 µg/m³ for PM10 and 60 µg/m³ for PM2.5. Requirements include water sprinklers, fogging systems, covered plant units, and vehicle cleaning to mitigate dust and pollution.
