Prayagraj Gears Up for National Bird Sanctuary, Boosting Eco-Tourism

In September 2025, the city of Prayagraj, renowned for its spiritual legacy and the sacred Sangam, is poised to carve a new identity as an eco-tourism destination. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has announced plans to establish a National Bird Sanctuary, set to become a haven for hundreds of bird species from across India and abroad.

The ₹132 crore sanctuary, centered around the expansive Kanihar Lake, will align with the seasonal influx of migratory birds, particularly the captivating Siberian species that arrive during the annual Magh Mela. Adorned in striking plumage and known for their enchanting calls, these avian guests have long captivated nature enthusiasts and bird watchers along the sacred Sangam.

Alongside the bird sanctuary, the PDA is also planning a riverfront development project, spanning 68 hectares, to offer a tranquil, nature-immersive experience for both residents and tourists. The twin initiatives aim to transform Prayagraj into a multifaceted tourism destination, blending its spiritual heritage with an ecologically vibrant landscape.

With the construction of five temple corridors under the Yogi Adityanath government, Prayagraj has already been firmly positioned within the Ramayana Circuit. Now, the city's renewed focus on eco-tourism is set to further enhance its allure, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a unique blend of spiritual enrichment and ecological exploration.
