23 Aug
Summary
- Ganga and Yamuna river water levels are stabilizing and receding in Prayagraj.
- Water levels dropped between 8 and 16 cm every four hours at key points.
- Localities usually facing floods are being monitored by authorities.

The Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj are showing signs of stabilization, with water levels beginning to recede following a period of heavy monsoon surge. This welcome development offers respite to the administration and residents who had been closely watching the rising waters. Officials confirmed that both rivers have been receding since Sunday morning, though a close watch is being maintained.
At noon on Sunday, the Ganga's water level at Phaphamau was recorded at 81.27 meters, while at Chhatnag it was 80.14 meters. The Yamuna at Naini flowed at 80.55 meters. Significant drops were observed, with levels receding 8 cm and 16 cm every four hours at Chhatnag and Naini respectively, while the Ganga at Phaphamau remained stable.
These levels are still over two meters below the danger mark of 84.73 meters. The receding trend has brought relief to many, although the district administration, along with SDRF and Jal police, remains on alert, particularly in low-lying areas typically prone to flooding. The rise in water levels was attributed to water released from upstream dams and rivers in neighboring states.
