- Authorities warn rope swings endanger wildlife and humans.
A tragic incident has occurred in the New Forest where a pony lost its life after becoming ensnared in a rope intended for a swing. The animal is believed to have become trapped near Lyndhurst, Hampshire, and struggled for an entire night before being discovered on Saturday.
Agister Robert Maton described the pony as having its hind leg caught in a thin rope, likely thrashing for survival. Found in a waterlogged dip exacerbated by recent rain, the pony had become severely exhausted.
Sadly, the animal had to be euthanized due to its condition. The rope has since been removed, and authorities are urging visitors to exercise caution and be mindful of the free-roaming ponies inhabiting the national park. They also caution that rope swings can pose risks to humans, as trees supporting them may not be stable.
