25 Mar
Summary
- Peregrine falcon McKeever has laid two eggs in her downtown Sheraton hotel nest.
- Hamilton Falconwatch is seeking volunteers for the upcoming nesting season.
- Chicks are expected around the end of April and will be banded in May.
The Hamilton Community Peregrine Project is preparing for the 2026 nesting season as peregrine falcon McKeever has started laying eggs. McKeever and her partner Judson have laid two eggs in their nest on the 18th floor of the downtown Sheraton hotel, with more expected. Hamilton Falconwatch, the community group monitoring the birds, anticipates the chicks will hatch around the end of April.
Volunteers are urgently needed for the upcoming season, with no prior training required. Hamilton Falconwatch provides orientation and has a trained rescue team. The chicks will be banded in the third week of May, and the main falcon watch period will commence in early June, lasting approximately four weeks. Peregrines have nested at the Sheraton since at least 1995, and the project has successfully fledged over 75 chicks.
