Summary

  • Bihar's first modern crematorium at Bans Ghat in Patna is nearing completion.
  • The Rs 89.40 crore facility spans 4.5 acres, featuring grand 'moksha dwar' and 'baikuntha dwar' gates.
  • The advanced crematorium will offer electric units, wood pyres, dedicated ponds, waiting halls, and a Shiva statue.

Bihar's inaugural modern crematorium, situated at Patna's Bans Ghat, is on the cusp of completion and is expected to be inaugurated by the end of this month. This state-of-the-art facility, developed by BUIDCO at a cost of Rs 89.40 crore, spans an impressive 4.5 acres and is designed to provide dignified and environmentally conscious cremation services to residents of Patna and surrounding areas.

The new crematorium boasts a grand entrance with two 46.58-foot-tall gates, named 'moksha dwar' and 'baikuntha dwar', each adorned with a prominent bronze 'Om' symbol. A 12-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva, inspired by Tamil Nadu's 'Adiyogi' statue, has been installed, featuring cascading water and nighttime illumination, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere. The facility integrates four advanced electric cremation units, six wood-based pyres, and eight traditional platforms, alongside two ponds for post-cremation rituals.

Beyond cremation facilities, the site includes comprehensive amenities for families and staff, such as waiting halls, prayer rooms, administrative offices, a canteen, a temple, staff quarters, and ample parking. The existing crematorium is also undergoing renovations to complement the new infrastructure. This development signifies a benchmark for crematoriums in Bihar, harmoniously blending modernity with tradition for serene and sustainable final rites.
