Work is commencing on a substantial £15m scheme to upgrade wastewater infrastructure in Pannal, near Harrogate. Yorkshire Water is undertaking this project to increase capacity and support anticipated housing developments.
The upgrade will involve installing 3.1 miles (5km) of new sewer pipework. Additionally, two new wastewater pumping stations and two new storage tanks will be constructed, adding 2000m3 of capacity.
These new facilities will hold up to 2m litres of excess wastewater and rainwater. The project aims to reduce pressure on the existing network and enhance its overall resilience.
Mott MacDonald Bentley has been appointed as the contract partner to carry out the work. The construction is expected to take approximately 15 months to complete.
This initiative is part of Yorkshire Water's broader £8.3bn improvement programme. The overall goal is to support regional growth and improve the environmental health of local rivers and watercourses.
