Panchkula MC Affirms Clean Water Discharge into Sukhna Choe
12 Dec
Summary
- Panchkula MC states no untreated sewage enters Sukhna Choe tributary.
- All sewage diverted to a fully functional 1.5 MLD sewage treatment plant.
- Pollution control board reports confirm treated effluent meets standards.

Panchkula Municipal Corporation has submitted an affidavit to the National Green Tribunal, asserting that its jurisdiction is not contributing any untreated or partially treated sewage to the Sukhna Choe. The corporation clarified that all sewage from its catchment area is fully intercepted and channeled to the 1.5 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) located in Saketri. This plant, serving Saketri and Mahadevpur villages, is reported to be in full working condition.
To further guarantee the water quality, an open chamber with a screen filter has been installed at the discharge point. This measure prevents solid and organic waste from entering the choe, ensuring that only treated effluent that meets all mandated norms is released. The MC also confirmed that all previously identified outfalls carrying waste into Sukhna Choe or the Ghaggar river have been completely tapped.
