- Survey covers forests, agricultural land, and wetlands.
- Data collection spans one year in two phases.

A significant bird mapping study, the 'Palakkad Bird Atlas Season 2.0,' commenced on Sunday in Chittur, Palakkad district. This initiative, a collaboration between the Forest Department and local environmental groups, seeks to comprehensively document the district's avian population and their habitats.
The project employs a citizen science approach, inviting bird watchers and volunteers to systematically collect data across different ecosystems, including forests, agricultural areas, and wetlands. The district has been segmented into 410 sub-cells, each measuring 1.1 sqkm, for detailed field observations.
This extensive survey is planned to continue for one year, divided into monsoon and summer phases. The organizers anticipate completing the entire project within three years, culminating in the creation of a detailed bird atlas for Palakkad. The study aims to provide crucial scientific insights for biodiversity conservation and environmental planning.
