10 Oct
Summary
- Pachamalai waterfalls reopened after five months of closure.
- Rainfall has significantly boosted water levels in the hills.
- New facilities enhance safety and convenience for visitors.
Pachamalai hills' waterfalls have reopened to the public after a five-month hiatus caused by drought conditions. Heavy rainfall over the past week has led to a notable increase in water levels, especially at Mangalam Falls, revitalizing the scenic beauty of the region. Forest officials have officially permitted tourist access, with range officer J Naveenkumar noting that the current water volume is sufficient for bathing in the coming days. Tourists are urged to be mindful of downstream village water needs and avoid using shampoos. Earlier improvements at Mangalam Falls included Rs 10 lakh spent on metal handrails and dressing rooms. At Koraiyar Falls, 800 metres of stone steps and a new Rs 16 lakh bathing area were developed to improve accessibility and visitor experience, with expectations of further water level increases.
