Offshore Developer Cites 'Safety Concerns' to Avoid Public Meeting on Floating Wind Farm Storage Yard
11 Nov
Summary
- Developer plans 14-square-mile floating storage yard for wind farm bases in Moray Firth
- Locals and fishermen fear it will destroy their way of life and harm wildlife
- Developer refuses to attend public meeting, citing 'safety concerns' for staff

In November 2025, a developer called Offshore Solutions Group (OSG) is planning to create a 'flow-park' in the Moray Firth, covering an estimated 14 square miles of the Scottish coastline. The site would be used to store anchors for floating wind turbines, which can weigh several thousand tons, during construction and bad weather.
However, the proposal has faced significant opposition from local campaigners and the fishing industry. They claim the heavy structures will destroy the local way of life, harm wildlife, and decimate the area's fishing industry, which provides delicacies for prestigious restaurants.
Despite the public's concerns, OSG has now refused to attend a public meeting organized by Scottish Conservative MSP Tim Eagle. The developer cited 'significant concerns' about 'social media content, direct communications and activities' related to the project, claiming it raises safety issues for its staff. This last-minute decision has angered Mr. Eagle, who says OSG raised these worries weeks ago but had previously confirmed attendance.
The local community is deeply disappointed by OSG's refusal to engage, with Mr. Eagle describing it as 'an excuse for avoiding questioning' about the controversial proposal. An online petition against the development has already gathered over 5,000 signatures, as locals fight to protect the Moray Firth's natural beauty and their livelihoods.
