20 Mar
Summary
- Rescued tiger Mia euthanized after advanced cancer diagnosis.
- Mia and Lola were rescued from a shuttered Oklahoma tourist attraction.
- Lola, Mia's companion, was euthanized in January due to infection.

Mia, a rescued tiger at the Oakland Zoo, was euthanized after a recent diagnosis of advanced cancer. The approximately 14-year-old feline was observed eating less and exhibiting poor health, leading to a veterinary examination that confirmed widespread cancer.
Given the extensive and invasive nature of potential treatments, zoo officials made the difficult decision to euthanize Mia. She and her companion, Lola, were originally rescued in 2022 from a now-closed roadside tourist attraction in Oklahoma. The facility had been cited by the USDA in 2008 for numerous animal welfare violations, and the tigers lived in substandard conditions.
Lola, Mia's companion, was euthanized in January at about 15 years old after an infection in her paw spread throughout her body. The zoo expressed gratitude for providing the tigers with a better life, emphasizing their commitment to high standards of animal welfare and veterinary care.
