Police in Haryana's Nuh district arrested four men on Sunday in connection with poaching migratory birds and waterfowl at Kotla lake. The arrests followed a complaint filed by a wildlife inspector, leading to the detention of Zakir, Waheed, Mujahid, and Rajuddin, all residents of Akera. The accused admitted to trapping birds during winter months and selling them in the market.
Authorities stated that these birds are attracted to the Akera-Kotla lake during the colder season. The four men, along with accomplices, were caught on December 21, 2025, laying nets but fled before wildlife teams arrived. They were apprehended again on Saturday when returning to the site.
This incident underscores recurring poaching problems at Kotla-Akera lake, a vital winter habitat for migratory birds. The area has seen previous First Information Reports (FIRs) filed due to illegal activities and lack of protection, prompting scrutiny from the National Green Tribunal. Separately, in January, police and forest officials took measures to curb illegal mining in the Aravallis by sealing unauthorized access routes to Pinangwan Hills.
