Birds have been rescued from a Nottinghamshire pond after it was polluted by an oil spill. The Environment Agency confirmed the incident occurred near the River Trent in Radcliffe-on-Trent. Investigations suggest approximately 10 liters of oil entered the pond, believed to have originated from a discarded container.
A local wildlife group has been actively involved in rescuing birds impacted by the spill. Parish councillor Anne McLeod visited the site with volunteers, expressing sadness over the incident and hoping it was unintentional. While one container was retrieved, a second could not be removed by the volunteers.
The Environment Agency is continuing to monitor the situation and is in contact with the pond's owner. Although a slight oil sheen persists, officials do not foresee further environmental damage or impacts on other watercourses. The focus remains on the ongoing cleanup and rescue efforts.
