Nottinghamshire Man Convicted for Illegal Waste Dumping Spree

In a crackdown on unlawful waste disposal practices, the Environment Agency has exposed a series of offenses committed by a Nottinghamshire man over the past few years. An investigation, which included a drone survey of Top Farm, revealed aerial images showing a variety of waste materials being stored on the site without the necessary permissions or environmental protection infrastructure.

The offender, identified as Reilly, admitted to leaving his digger at the Top Farm site for "considerable periods of time." However, it was acknowledged that he was not solely responsible for all the waste deposited there. Reilly also confessed to operating an illegal waste site on land in Oxton Road, Southwell, between 2020 and 2021, where he illegally dumped eight lorry loads of waste soils.

Furthermore, between April and July 2023, Reilly illegally dumped 160 tonnes of waste soil on land at Winking Hill in Ratcliffe-on-Soar. The landowner discovered the deposits in April 2023 and confronted Reilly, who admitted responsibility. In September 2023, Environment Agency officers witnessed Reilly reversing his lorry into open fields at Flawforth Lane in Ruddington, where he dumped more waste soil without the required permit or exemption.

Reilly claimed the waste was imported as "finishing and levelling works" to fill holes that had been dug on the land in Ruddington by unidentified individuals. However, the Environment Agency has taken legal action against him for these multiple offenses, highlighting the importance of responsible waste management practices.
