Nonprofit Rescues Lost Boa Constrictor in Pennsylvania

On October 11, 2025, the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, a nonprofit organization specializing in the rehabilitation of birds of prey, aquatic birds, and mammals in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, faced an unexpected challenge. Despite their expertise primarily lying in native wildlife, volunteers from Raven Ridge were called to the streets of Columbia, Pennsylvania, to address a surprising discovery - a boa constrictor.

According to a Facebook post by the wildlife center, the volunteers were shocked when informed of the situation, as Raven Ridge does not typically handle exotic animals. However, recognizing the boa's vulnerable state, the team sprang into action to rescue the non-native snake.

The boa constrictor, which is native to regions from Northern Mexico to Argentina, was visibly tired and scared, likely a lost or released pet. Raven Ridge contacted their friends at the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary to assist in the rescue and rehabilitation of the animal.

In their post, Raven Ridge emphasized the importance of not releasing non-native pets, as they can pose a threat to the local ecosystem and disrupt the natural balance of biodiversity. The organization advised pet owners to contact local animal shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centers, or exotic pet amnesty programs if they are unable to care for their animals, rather than abandoning them.
