The Noida Authority has imposed a ₹73 lakh penalty on the Amrapali Sapphire Apartment Owners Association (AOA) following the discovery of a dysfunctional sewage treatment plant (STP) within the housing complex. An inspection by the Authority's water works department team on Saturday found the STP not operational, leading to the dumping of untreated wastewater into storm drains.
Consequently, an FIR has been filed under the Water Act-1974 and Air Act-1974, with additional violations noted under waste management rules and Article 272 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This enforcement action is part of a broader initiative initiated on August 3, 2022, subsequent to National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives aimed at improving the quality of treated wastewater and mitigating pollution in the Yamuna River.
