Builder Fined ₹10 Lakh for Dust Violations
24 Oct
Summary
- Developer fined ₹10 lakh for not controlling dust at construction site.
- Anti-smog guns were installed but none were operational during inspection.
- Project failed to install green netting and tyre-washing systems.
The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has recommended an environmental compensation of ₹10 lakh against the developer of Godrej Palm Retreat in Sector 150, Noida. This action stems from alleged violations of dust-control norms observed during an inspection on October 21. Officials noted that several critical pollution-control measures were either absent or non-functional at the construction site.
Key violations identified included non-operational anti-smog guns, a lack of green netting to contain dust, and the absence of a tyre-washing system at the main entrance. These issues persisted despite previous notices issued to the developer, ACE Infracity Developers Pvt Ltd, on September 30. The UPPCB's findings have been forwarded to its headquarters for further action under National Green Tribunal guidelines.
The recommended penalty of ₹10 lakh underscores the seriousness of the environmental non-compliance. This action occurs as Noida continues to grapple with elevated air pollution levels, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) recently recorded in the moderate category. The UPPCB's enforcement aims to curb dust emissions contributing to the region's air quality challenges.
