Summary

- A ₹490 crore plan is developing themed zones and new garden sections.
- The garden aims to become a world-class site for conservation research.

The Botanical Garden in Noida's Sector 38A has been closed to the public since January last year, with an anticipated reopening in two more years as a major renovation project progresses. This extensive upgrade is part of a ₹490 crore plan aimed at establishing the garden as a premier global conservation site.
Visitors are currently unable to enter, as signboards indicate the closure will persist until the comprehensive modernization is complete. The development focuses on creating distinct zones reflecting various forest ecosystems, including tropical, subtropical, and tropical moist environments.
Future additions will feature a trellis garden, a discovery garden, a bonsai collection, and a garden of senses. The site will also host sections for aquatic plants, cacti, succulents, palms, and wild edible fruits and vegetables. An administrative building and an interpretation centre are also part of the ambitious plan.
Established in 2002 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, the Botanic Garden of Indian Republic spans 164.85 acres. It has historically served as a crucial hub for conservation research and environmental education, maintaining a herbarium with over 1,500 flowering plant specimens.
