2 May
Summary
- BRO is undertaking restoration and protection work on Uttarakhand's NH34.
- The agency took over multiple stretches from NHIDCL for repairs.
- Restoration and protection work are expected within a year of contractor acceptance.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has recorded progress on the restoration and protection of NH34 stretches in Uttarakhand, with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) leading the efforts. The BRO officially took over responsibility for multiple sections from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), including areas where defect liability periods had concluded.
The BRO is accelerating landslide treatment works, with tendering initiated on a "war footing" and financial bids scheduled to open on March 30. The agency has committed to completing the comprehensive restoration and protection within one year from the acceptance of the contractor's bid.
Maintenance of the handed-over stretches is ongoing using general funds, while a sanction for comprehensive maintenance is pending. The ecological restoration plan includes compensatory plantation and slope stabilization using bio-engineering methods. The NGT has kept the details of compensatory plantation open for further submission by the BRO, which is expected to file a specific affidavit within two weeks.
