- 121 people identified with respiratory illness symptoms.
- 21 polluting units received closure notices.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has mandated the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) to present an action-taken report within three weeks regarding pollution from industrial units in Bikaner's Khara area. This directive was issued during a hearing on October 26, 2026, initiated by a letter concerning pollution and its effects on local villagers.
Inspections have led to the issuance of closure notices to 21 units found to be causing pollution. The NGT emphasized the need for necessary actions against these units and strict adherence to environmental regulations. Additionally, the board must ensure adequate tree plantation and survival rates in areas lacking compliance.
As part of the health assessment, a door-to-door survey in Khara village and adjacent industrial zones identified 121 people exhibiting symptoms of respiratory ailments, who have been referred for further medical evaluation. Medical camps have also been organized. The tribunal has set December 18, 2026, for the next hearing.
