NGT Orders Action on Aravali Eco-Damage
10 Feb
Summary
- NGT set a four-week deadline for authorities to respond.
- Allegations include construction, tree loss, and wildlife disruption.
- The Aravali range in Sector 54 is an ecologically sensitive area.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has mandated a four-week response period for government agencies and authorities regarding accusations of environmental damage within Gurgaon's Aravali landscape. This order, dated January 30 and uploaded recently, addresses critical concerns about construction, tree loss, illegal borewells, and the disruption of wildlife corridors in the ecologically sensitive Sector 54.
The tribunal is examining a plea filed by environmentalist Vaishali Rana, which details unauthorized constructions and activities impacting the Aravali range. These actions allegedly threaten the habitat of diverse fauna and bird species, as well as vital wildlife corridors.
Previous hearings, starting in July 2025, brought to light issues such as rampant construction, land flattening, tree cutting, illegal borewells, and the creation of roads through the forest area. The NGT's focus also includes pollution from noise and plastic, alongside commercial activities within the protected zone. Encroachment over more than 10 acres of forest land, including an unauthorized building and commercial operations, has also been flagged.
