Summary
- Seven turbines up to 200m high proposed near Cairnryan.
- Project aims to power over 50,000 homes with clean energy.
- New wind farm could create about 20 jobs once operational.

A proposal for a new wind farm near Loch Ryan in Scotland has been submitted to the Scottish government. Developer Wind Estate aims to construct seven turbines, each reaching up to 200 meters (650ft) in height, situated approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) northeast of Cairnryan. This development site, north of the Penwhirn reservoir, will also feature a battery energy storage system (BESS).
The proposed wind farm has the potential to supply energy for more than 50,000 homes. It is situated within the transition zone of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Reserve and borders the Glen App Special Protection Area (SPA) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which are protected for breeding hen harriers. The company behind the plan asserts it can make a substantial contribution to Scotland's net-zero emissions targets and is expected to generate around 20 jobs during its 40-year operational lifespan.
