Somerset Reserve Blooms Along Strawberry Line

A significant conservation effort is underway in rural Somerset, focused on establishing a new nature reserve. This initiative is directly integrated with the well-traversed Strawberry Line, a key route for walkers and cyclists that extends from Yatton railway station to Shepton Mallet.

Volunteers are diligently working to develop the Hollybrook reserve. Plans include the creation of a welcoming picnic area at the reserve's entrance, situated close to Wells. Additionally, a dedicated lookout point is being constructed to provide visitors with picturesque views across the Somerset Levels, towards Panborough and Wedmore.

The area is already recognized for its rich biodiversity. According to Mick Fletcher, chairman of the Strawberry Line Society, the embankment is teeming with wildlife. It hosts at least one badger sett and is home to rabbits, foxes, several deer, and a wide variety of birds, highlighting the ecological importance of this developing sanctuary.
