New Sea Lions Arrive at Colchester Zoo
23 Sep
Summary
- Two new California sea lions are settling in.
- Three older sea lions passed away earlier this year.
- The new sea lions arrived from other UK and European zoos.
Colchester Zoo has announced the arrival of two new California sea lions, Sofia and her daughter Cali, who are reportedly beginning to settle into their new environment. The zoo expressed its delight at having the popular species back.
This comes after the zoo experienced the passing of three of their older sea lions earlier this year, who had all reached an old age. The team leader described the previous sea lions as being like an "extended family" for 16 years, noting their loss left a significant void.
Sofia, one of the new arrivals, has a history of being at Rotterdam Zoo and subsequently Welsh Mountain Zoo, where her daughter Cali was born. Both have now made their home in Colchester.
