Pollution Crackdown: Navi Mumbai Halts 19 Construction Sites
8 Jan
Summary
- 19 construction sites halted due to air quality exceeding 200 AQI.
- Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation issued notices to 42 sites.
- Mandatory air quality devices installed at 30 construction sites.

In a decisive move against rising winter air pollution, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has halted operations at 19 construction sites that violated pollution control norms. These sites recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 200, prompting immediate action. Notices were also served to an additional 42 construction sites identified for non-compliance.
The NMMC has established a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for pollution control at construction sites, making adherence mandatory. This includes the installation of air quality measuring devices, with 30 sites having already complied. A dedicated flying squad has been formed to conduct inspections and enforce these regulations across different divisions, issuing various notices to developers.
To combat dust, the NMMC is actively cleaning roadsides and washing streets with treated water, alongside spraying water to settle airborne particles. The civic body urges residents to rely on official AQI data from sources like the SAMEER app and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) website, cautioning against the unverified data from third-party sensors.
