Summary

- Waste levels are expected to normalize after the Diwali festivities conclude.
Nashik is currently witnessing a substantial rise in garbage generation due to the ongoing Diwali festivities. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has implemented a special cleanliness drive and deployed 12 additional garbage collection vans to cope with the increased waste.
Daily waste collection in the city has climbed by approximately 50 tonnes, from the usual 800 tonnes to nearly 850 tonnes. This surge is attributed to residents cleaning their homes in preparation for Diwali, a pattern observed annually during this festive period. Around 400 garbage collection vans are already in operation across Nashik's 31 wards, managed by contractors.
The 12 extra vehicles have been distributed across the six divisions, with two additional vans per division. These are operating day and night, particularly in busy market areas like Raviwar Karanja, Shalimar, Main Road, and M G Road, to prevent accumulation. The elevated garbage levels are projected to continue until November 11, marking the end of Diwali, after which waste generation is expected to return to normal.
