Nandankanan Zoological Park has enriched its biodiversity with the recent acquisition of 58 exotic animals representing 14 distinct species. The new arrivals include zebras, kangaroos, Bennett's wallabies, ring-tailed lemurs, tufted capuchins, meerkats, cassowaries, and blue wildebeests, along with 24 exotic birds such as macaws and cockatoos. These animals were generously donated by the Radha Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust in Gujarat.
Currently, all 58 animals are undergoing mandatory quarantine for essential health assessments and acclimatization processes. This period ensures their well-being before they are introduced into their designated enclosures. The zoo has gained 10 new species, with some existing species receiving breeding pairs and others being bolstered by new bloodlines.
Zoo officials anticipate that the presence of these diverse species will greatly enhance educational programs, offering visitors insights into wildlife from different geographical regions and the importance of biodiversity conservation. The exotic animals are also expected to draw increased visitor interest, particularly among children and wildlife enthusiasts. The Nandankanan authorities have assured that the animals will be managed under stringent animal care protocols, focusing on welfare, nutrition, and long-term health monitoring.
