The Florist League, a long-standing voluntary organization in Kumaon focused on floriculture, horticulture, and nature photography, has been revived. This initiative aims to reintroduce Nainital's popular flower exhibitions and celebrate its rich floral heritage.
Founded in 1985, the league was once a significant cultural event, attracting enthusiasts from across Kumaon. A recent meeting, chaired by veteran photographer Anoop Sah, saw the election of a new executive committee, with Sah and Threesh Kapoor continuing as patrons.
The revived league's president, Colonel Ajay Bhatt, stated the revival is crucial for restoring Nainital's identity. Historically known for dahlias, hydrangeas, begonias, and geraniums, the city had seen a decline in its gardens and public floral displays. The organization plans to expand by creating regional wings in Almora, Ranikhet, and Pithoragarh.
This revival seeks to reconnect younger generations with nature and provide a broader platform for gardeners, photographers, and environmentalists throughout Kumaon.
