Tribal Watcher Wins Top Tiger Conservation Award

Murukesan N., a forest watcher and naturalist at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, has been awarded the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) award of excellence for his contributions to tiger conservation.

Working in the Sungam range, Murukesan, a member of the Malasar tribal community, has dedicated 25 years to conservation efforts within the reserve. His work encompasses wildlife interpretation, biodiversity education, and promoting ecotourism.

He will receive this prestigious national honor, which includes a cash prize, from Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi on July 29, 2026, coinciding with World Tiger Day. This award is considered one of the highest national recognitions for service in tiger reserves.

Despite having formal education only up to Class IX, Murukesan's extensive field knowledge has established him as a respected naturalist. He has guided thousands of visitors and significantly contributed to conservation awareness, earning accolades from various stakeholders.
