Mumbai Drenched: Red Alert Issued Amidst Deluge

Mumbai is currently under a Red Alert as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of moderate to intense rainfall spells. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary due to the severe weather conditions.
A significant 4.19-metre high tide is anticipated this afternoon, which could exacerbate flooding in low-lying areas, especially if heavy rains persist. This warning comes after several parts of the city experienced 250-300 mm of rainfall in the preceding 24 hours, accounting for 74% of the monthly average.
Despite the heavy downpours and tidal activity, normal life has largely continued across Mumbai. While waterlogging occurred in approximately 10 low-lying locations and 18 trees fell, no casualties have been reported. Around 10,000 personnel from the BMC and other agencies are actively monitoring the situation, with senior officials overseeing the response.
