Southern Gujarat and parts of the Konkan region, including Mumbai, are bracing for continued intense rainfall on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following heavy downpours over the preceding 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain, with extremely heavy showers possible in isolated locations across Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra. Konkan and Goa, encompassing Mumbai, are also expected to experience very heavy rainfall.
Several areas have already recorded substantial rainfall, with Kaprada in Gujarat's Valsad district receiving the highest at 42 cm in 24 hours ending Wednesday morning. Tamhini in Pune recorded 28 cm, and Dharavi in Mumbai saw 15 cm. Consequently, a low to moderate flash-flood risk has been issued for multiple districts in Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman until Thursday morning.
Mumbai city and its suburbs, along with Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, are also identified as areas with flash-flood risk. Residents can expect waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and inundation of low-lying areas. Vulnerable hilly regions within these districts are warned of potential landslides or mudslides. Active monsoon conditions are expected to persist over northwest, central, eastern, and northeastern India for the next three to four days, while southern India is likely to see subdued rainfall activity.
