Mumbai recorded its cleanest air quality since the start of February on Sunday, achieving an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 117, which falls within the 'moderate' category.
While the city-wide average improved, air quality varied significantly between suburbs. Borivli, Powai, and Mulund reported AQI levels close to the 'satisfactory' mark, indicating much better conditions in these areas.
Conversely, localities such as Sion, Bandra East, and Navy Nagar experienced considerably poorer air quality, with AQI readings well into the 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' range. Satellite cities like Thane and Navi Mumbai also saw marginal improvements.
Alongside the air quality shift, Mumbaikars experienced unusually warm weather. Maximum temperatures across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) were approximately 3.6°C to 3.7°C higher than the seasonal average, with nighttime temperatures also remaining elevated, suggesting a departure from typical January weather patterns.
