Leopard Parts Seized: Interstate Trafficking Ring Exposed
2 Aug
Summary
- Leopard bones, body parts, and traps recovered in MP.
- Seven accused confessed to poaching 10 leopards.
- Agra seizure exposed a wider interstate wildlife network.

Following the seizure of 10 leopard skins in Agra, which exposed an alleged interstate wildlife trafficking network, the Madhya Pradesh State Tiger Strike Force (STSF) has recovered leopard bones, body parts, and leg-hold traps. These discoveries were made in Sheopur and Morena districts on July 30 during a joint operation.
Seven accused have been arrested in connection with these cases. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to having killed 10 leopards across the state, with six poached in Kuno Wildlife Division, two in Sheopur Forest Division, and two in the Chambal Sanctuary under Morena Forest Division. The use of leg-hold traps highlights the cruel methods employed by poachers.
Forest officials have registered two forest offence cases and are continuing interrogations to identify further members of the alleged poaching syndicate, trace the supply chain, and uncover the broader illegal wildlife trade network. The arrested accused were presented before the Special STSF Court in Shivpuri.
