Madhya Pradesh Tiger Deaths Spark Concern
26 Feb
Summary
- Eight tigers died in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve recently.
- Four tigers died from electrocution in general forest areas.
- A petition highlights 54 tiger deaths in Madhya Pradesh in 2025.

A recent status report filed with the High Court reveals alarming tiger mortality rates in Madhya Pradesh. Between November 21, 2025, and February 2, 2026, eight tigers died within the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and its surrounding general forest areas.
Four tigers lost their lives due to natural causes within the reserve, including mutual conflicts, drowning, and disease. However, four other tigers were confirmed to have died from electrocution in the general forest area, raising significant concerns about safety measures for wildlife.
The High Court is scrutinizing these deaths following a petition that alleged suspicious circumstances. The petition noted that 54 tigers died in Madhya Pradesh in 2025, an increase from previous years, and questioned the effectiveness of wildlife protection measures.
In response to the court's directive, the field director of the Bandhavgarh reserve submitted a detailed report. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 25 to further address the matter and consider a response from the petitioners.
