While current insecticide effectiveness is not immediately compromised, experts caution that continued resistance could endanger the ability to manage potential outbreaks.
Fortunately, effective non-chemical control methods are available. Tiger mosquitoes primarily breed in small, artificial collections of standing water, such as clogged gutters and flowerpots. Regularly emptying these containers, ideally weekly, can disrupt the mosquito life cycle. For pet owners concerned about heartworm, monthly preventative pills are recommended over spraying. Larvicide dunks are also suggested for water that cannot be emptied, offering a safe alternative to adulticides.
