Moseley Residents Battle Year-Long Fly-Tipping Nightmare
12 Oct
Summary
- Rubbish accumulated on residential road for over a year.
- Residents fear the dumped waste poses a significant fire risk.
- Council removed rubbish, but waste on private land remains.
A year-long accumulation of fly-tipped waste on Park Road in Moseley has become a significant concern for local residents. The road is blighted by four yellow skips, red sofas, old mattresses, and numerous bin bags, creating an unsightly and potentially dangerous environment. This situation began after three Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) were shut down.
Residents have expressed fears that the waste, a mix of flammable materials, could be easily ignited, posing a serious fire risk to their homes. One local activist highlighted the danger, stating that a single cigarette could potentially set the entire area ablaze.
Upon contact by the BBC, Birmingham City Council promptly removed rubbish from the pavement. The council indicated that they had previously addressed waste in the area. However, the core issue of four full skips remaining on private land persists, with residents having made unsuccessful attempts to contact the landowner for months.
